Moses is portrayed as in Paul Gustave Doré’s famous engraving, which itself represents Moses typically – with the Tablets of theTen Commandments in one hand, and the other raised to Heaven.

The mosaic technique used to make this piece is a play on the word 'Mosaic' meaning 'of or deriving from Moses'. Mosaic is also apt in that the etymology of the artistic technique comes from the Greek divinity MOSEYON, patron of the arts. From Moseyon we get Moysa (Muse).

The work is dedicated to mosaic artist Alessandra Piovano, daughter of Vincenzo Piovano the well-known sculptor and wood-carver.
