Fine e Mezzi
1970
mixed technique
Two thin cardboard plaques
English meaning: ‘The end justify the means’
Explanation: The word ‘fine’ in Italian has a double meaning: ‘thin’ or‘end’. And also ‘mezzi’ has a double meaning: ‘halves’ and ‘means’ (intended as methods).
The thin plaque with the inscription ‘fine’ is unhooked in two halves at the center; so, in Italian, the phrase could sound like the wellknown saying: ‘The end justifies the means’ erroneausly attributed to Niccolò Machiavelli.
