A Pear A Pair DisAPair

a pear a pair disapair

2004-2006

mixed technique 50x195 cm

Dedicated to René Magritte, the “one armed bandit” and... Noel Coward

A pear, a pair of pears, a pair of pears disappeared !

This is a game played on the pronunciation of Noel Coward, who spoke an exaggerated, thespian form of English, such that disappear, becomes dis-a-pair. The work also talks of absence, and asks how can absence be twinned ? But what can we know of nothingness to cast such judgments ?
