Sacred art is art made for sacred - but not necessarily religious - worship.

Here the definition of sacred art is played upon, and the material used - a red sack - is a clear reference to the Veil of Veronica, the linen cloth with which St Veronica is believed to have wiped the face of Christ while he carried the cross to Mount Golgotha.
Christ’s image was imprinted on the cloth, and there are many versions of the Veil – both extant and lost - that Christian tradition has identified with that of Veronica. Here, the image of Jesus is the one from the post-resurrection Holy Shroud.
